Papermaking
and book art seemed like a natural with basket weaving--fibers, texture and nature. I began experimenting with a wide variety
of materials to create different paper and papyrus. The plant-life surrounding our home, on the dunes, and in the hills are
naturals for paper. And of course, being able to recycle paper into new forms is enjoyable. Once I started creating the paper,
I needed to start using it. Book making became a new passion. I enjoy using items found in nature in unique ways and/or repurposing
as much as possible. Every book is a one-of-a-kind item with its own character.

Treasure Box Book Find the treasure of a journal inside a box. A repurposed carved out wooden base is covered with
a piece of weathered plank found on the beach. The box (8"x4")has the word treasure carved on the lid with create,
imagine, and words painted on top. Inside is a five section journal of 60 sheets of light weight writing paper (120 pages).
The journal measures 6 1/2"x3 1/4" with the first page ringed with the phrase: With imagination, words create lasting
treasures.
The journals cover is decorated with dried and pressed bullwhip kelp, a feather, shells and small agate
all found on the beach. The binding is a coptic stitch allowing the book to lie flat.
A truly one-of-a-kind item.

Bullwhip Kelp Journal Nature came through again. The bullwhip kelp I find on the beach has always fascinate me, so I thought I would
try something different and incorporate it into one of my books. I cleaned, dried and pressed the kelp and then made it part
of a book cover. The kelp is glued to handmade paper and then glued to 1/4" plywood sheets. I then nailed brass tacks
along the lines of the kelp.
The journal (7 1/4"x12") contains eight sections of 16 pages. A total of
128 pages of heavy weight paper. I used a coptic binding to hold everything together so the book will lie flat when open.
This journal is truly stunning.
